3,296 disaster incidents claim 160 lives in last three months

The country recorded 3,296 incidents of natural disasters in the last three months of the last fiscal year, in which 160 people lost their lives. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, two persons went missing, and 945 people sustained injuries in such incidents that took place from April 14 to July 16. Similarly, 4,375 families were affected during the period. The highest number of incidents of fire took place in three months, which stood at 897, where 17 people died, 109 were injured, and 990 families were affected, added the Authority.

Likewise, 514 incidents of snakebite were recorded during the period, killing 38 people, leaving 479 injured and affecting 517 families. Thirteen people lost their lives in incidents of storms, 68 sustained injuries and 1356 families were affected during the period. A total of 477 incidents of storms had taken place. The country recorded 433 incidents of landslides, where 12 people died, 15 were injured, and 351 families were affected, while 24 people died, 120 were injured, and 262 families were affected in 223 incidents of lightning.

As per the details published by the Authority, 181 incidents of wildlife attack took place, killing 17 people, leaving 103 people injured and affecting 287 families. According to the Authority, nine people died, two went missing, nine were injured, and 396 families were affected in 161 incidents of flood while 153 incidents of heavy rainfall took place, where four people lost their lives, one sustained an injury, and 132 families were affected. Likewise, 21 people died due to high-altitude sickness, two died when a stone fell upon them, one died, and two were injured in wildfire incidents, and one died and another was injured in avalanches in three months.
