Landslides due to recent rainfall block major highways across the country

Kathmandu, May 5

Several major highways across the country have been blocked due to landslides triggered by rainfall over the past few days.

Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police Abinarayan Kafle informed that on Monday night, the inner dirt road section at Salakpur in Ilam’s Rong Rural Municipality–6, Chaukidanda in Kavrepalanchok’s Namobuddha Municipality–6, Ghumaune in Roshi Rural Municipality–7, and the BP Highway at Charsaybensi were completely blocked.

“The Mid-Hill Highway at Bokhim in Bhojpur Municipality–5, blocked by the flood of April 25, the Beni–Jomsom road section at Jalthale in Myagdi’s Annapurna Rural Municipality–3, blocked by a landslide on the 16th, and the Mid-Hill Highway at Bimirebhanjyang in Lamjung’s Madhya Nepal Municipality–10 are operating on a single-lane basis,” he said.

Police have urged travellers to exercise caution and travel safely on highways that are either blocked or operating as single-lane highways, as the risk of floods and landslides is higher during the rainy season.
