Kathmandu, March 11
Six political parties have been recognised as national parties following the elections held on March 5. Among them, one is a new party while five are existing ones.
The Shram Sanskriti Party is the only new party to gain national party status in this election. The party is led by Harka Sampang. It won three seats under the first-past-the-post system and crossed the three per cent threshold under the proportional representation category.
The other parties recognised as national parties are the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepal Communist Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
These parties had also held national party status in the previously dissolved House of Representatives.
