National Assembly: First meeting after Gen Z Movement ends after just 7 mins

National Assembly

Kathmandu, January 18

Sunday’s meeting of the National Assembly concluded after just seven and a half minutes.

On the first day of the current session, two agenda items were tabled. The first was the reading out of a letter received from the President regarding the convening of the session. The second was the presentation of a condolence motion following the death of National Assembly member Baldev Bohara.

The meeting proceeded strictly according to these two agenda items and was adjourned within seven and a half minutes.

There is an established practice of not moving ahead with other agenda items once a condolence motion is passed following the death of a sitting lawmaker. As a result, the meeting did not proceed to any additional business and ended quickly.

Chairperson Narayan Dahal adjourned the meeting, scheduling the next sitting of the National Assembly for Magh 9.

The probable agenda for the next meeting includes reading out letters from the Office of the President, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.

The agenda also includes the tabling of ordinances. In the interim, the government has issued several ordinances: one to amend the Voter List Act, 2073; another to amend the Nepal Special Service Act, 2042; and the House of Representatives Member Election (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2082.

Other likely agenda items include the presentation of a study report on the National Integrity Policy by the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee, and the presentation of the committee report on the Tourism Bill, 2081.
