Kathmandu, June 2
As a result of a protest by transport entrepreneurs, the general public in the Kathmandu Valley has been facing difficulties.
The transport entrepreneurs launched the protest by halting public transportation in opposition to the ride-sharing regulations introduced by the Gandaki Province government.
With the strike enforced by the entrepreneurs themselves, very few public vehicles have been operating in the Kathmandu Valley.
The disruption in transportation has particularly affected senior citizens and children. Patients heading to hospitals have also suffered.
Passengers are being forced to travel in overcrowded vehicles. Since early morning, crowds of people have gathered on sidewalks and at bus stops.
In response to the public hardship, Nepal Police has also brought two buses into operation within the Valley.
As the transport entrepreneurs initiated the protest by completely halting vehicle services, the government has begun talks with them. During a morning meeting, the entrepreneurs presented their demands to Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
