Goodwill ambassador of Sagarmatha Sambaad, Chhatyal, reaches atop Sagarmatha

Kathmandu, May 18

Assistant Inspector of the Armed Police Force (APF), Danta Bahadur Chhatyal, successfully scaled Mount Sagarmatha, the world’s highest peak, this morning as a goodwill ambassador for the “Sagarmatha Sambaad.”

Chhatyal reached the summit at 9:20 am, carrying both the official flag of the Armed Police Force and a banner bearing the message of “Sagarmatha Sambaad,” according to APF Inspector and expedition coordinator Nirmal Basnet, who reported from the Sagarmatha Base Camp.

Wangdi Sherpa also summited the peak alongside Assistant Inspector Chhatyal simultaneously. Chhatyal had earlier successfully climbed Lobuche Peak (6,114 meters) on May 5.

He was given an official farewell on April 27 by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and APF Inspector General Raju Aryal, who extended their best wishes for his success. The three-day Sagarmatha Sambaad themed “Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity”, which Chhatyal represents as goodwill ambassador, will be concluding today in Kathmandu.
