Twelve Nepalis rescued from Myanmar have been repatriated to Nepal via Bangkok, Thailand.
Altogether 11 men and one woman—was rescued from the Mewadi region of Myanmar and brought to Thailand with the support of the Thai government. The Nepali Embassy in Bangkok facilitated their return to Nepal on May 7.
These Nepali nationals had been forced into online scamming activities. After being rescued, they were taken through the Tak Immigration Office and Mae Sot before being brought to Thailand. The Nepali Embassy in Bangkok released a press statement confirming the repatriation of the 12 individuals.
The embassy also urged all Nepali citizens to seek foreign employment only after obtaining labor approval from the Government of Nepal. It further warned against traveling illegally to countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand in hopes of making quick and easy money.
