ANTUF volunteer team engaged in cleaning flood-affected homes

Nuwakot, November 1

A central volunteer team of the All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF) is working in Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot, to clean and restore homes damaged by floods.

The team, which arrived in Nuwakot on October 28 with the target of helping restore 500 flood-affected households, has been removing debris and cleaning homes at the request of residents.

Som Bahadur Tamang, vice-chairperson of the federation who is leading the volunteer team, said the team had cleaned and repaired the house of flood victim Nani Maya Shrestha before handing it over to her.

Shrestha’s house had become uninhabitable after mud and sludge entered it during the flood on August 26. She thanked the volunteer team after the house was cleaned and restored to a habitable condition.

The federation had earlier launched a volunteer campaign on October 27, mobilising around 50 members to support flood-affected families in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.

Federation Chairperson Jagat Sinkhada had said the campaign aimed to help clean, repair and restore at least 500 homes, based on the belief that the working class should support disaster-affected communities through labour and solidarity.
