Parliamentary hearing committee directs MPs to speak in Nepali

Kathmandu, October 13

A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee is underway today. At the outset of the meeting, committee chair Bodh Narayan Shrestha directed members to speak in Nepali as much as possible.

At the previous meeting, CPN leader Barshaman Pun had called for the chair to issue a ruling requiring lawmakers to ask questions in Nepali.

Chair Shrestha said some quotations could also be made in English. The committee is currently conducting hearings on ambassadorial nominees. On Monday, it held hearings for nominees proposed for India, China, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Hearings for nominees to the remaining countries are taking place today.
