Two calves born at chitwan’s elephant breeding centre, six more expected soon

Eight elephant calves are expected to arrive this year at the Elephant Breeding and Training Centre in Chitwan National Park (CNP) at Khorsor. Mana Puran Chaudhary, Chief of the Training Centre, confirmed that two calves have already been born, while the birth of six more is anticipated.

Karnalikali gave birth to a male calf on May 25, followed by Himalikali, who gave birth to a female calf on May 29. Devikali, Tirthaman Kali, and Rimjhim Kali are due to give birth by October 16. Additionally, Tamorkali, Loktantrakali, and Chitwankali are expected to give birth later this year.

The calves are trained starting three years after birth. Currently, the Centre has 11 mother elephants and 10 calves. Since its establishment in 1985, the Centre has seen the birth of 67 calves since 2054 BS. After training, these calves are mobilized to various posts within CNP.
