Kathmandu, May 28

Tension ran high in Nepalgunj, a major hotspot of the current wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Nepal, since early morning on Friday as a group attacked doctors of the Bheri Hospital after a patient’s death on Thursday night.

Doctors and nurses of the health facility staged a demonstration demanding action against the culprits, informs Dr Rajan Pandey, the chief physician consultant of the hospital.

After a Covid-19 patient from Dang died, the deceased’s relatives had reportedly attacked health workers and vandalised the Covid-19 ward of the hospital. A doctor and four nurses had to jump off the first floor of the hospital to save themselves.

Due to the protest this morning, admitting the new patients has been obstructed. Nonetheless, a few health workers are attending to the admitted patients, informs Hom Nath Subedi, the trade union president of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Banke District Police Office says it arrested three persons in connection with the case.
