Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi has refuted media reports that there was a delay in importing one million doses of Covishield Covid-19 vaccines from the Serum Institute of India because of the government’s inability to control corruption.

After several media reports claimed that the import was delayed due to the government’s inability to take action against an agent who demanded a hefty commission for the purchase, Minister Tripathi organised a press conference at the ministry this afternoon to defend the charge.

Even opposition leaders also blamed the government for the delay while speaking in the parliament meeting on Monday. One day after that, Tripathi warned them against speaking anything without proof. “You can speak, but after understanding the issue. Don’t speak anything baseless and false just for your pleasure.”

Tripathi claimed the import was delayed mainly due to the surge in the Covid-19 cases in India.
