The Kathmandu metropolitan city has decided to promote all of its permanent staff by one rank automatically in the name of staff adjustment.
This will increase the city government’s monthly budget by Rs 3 million per month (that is, by Rs 36 million per year).
A municipal council meeting on Tuesday endorsed the Staff Adjustment Act to promote all the staff, according to the KMC Chief Administrative Officer Rajeshwar Gyawali.
There are around 1,800 permanent staff under the KMC.
Gyawali defends the decision was made as per the staff’s demand. Of late, some staff were dissatisfied with the existing ranking in the city government as new staff coming to the KMC from federal government agencies could be senior to some older staff of the KMC.
“The law has been adopted to inspire the staff. We hope it will improve their service delivery,” he says.
