Dr KC’s health deteriorates, put on oxygen support

Kathmandu, October 4

The health condition of medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC has deteriorated on Sunday, the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike.

“We have given him oxygen support, but he has been refusing to take other medicines,” Dr Tosima Karki, who has been supporting Dr KC, informs.

The former professor of Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine is staging the fast-unto-death putting forth six demands including the implementation of agreements signed with him in the past.

In the past years, KC staged 18 of such hunger strikes that ended in various agreements, some of which were yet to be implemented.

Meanwhile, the government has already urged the fasting doctor to end his strike arguing it was not a right time to put pressure on the government with old demands as the country was fighting against the Covid-19 crisis. Dr KC, however, has been saying the demands are easy to meet, seeking the government’s commitment to them.
