ATM hack case
Money exchange operators arrested
Three money exchange operators have been arrested in connection with the ATM hacking case on Monday. Kathmandu Metropolitan Police arrested Dev Nath Lamichhane of Dekso Money Exchange and Roshan Pradhan Shrestha and Rewati Dawadi of Nepal Money Exchange on Monday. The Chinese men used these two money exchanges to convert the money.
The Chinese nationals had exchanged Nepali currency worth Rs 2.9 million to approximately $25,800. Police arrested the operators for exchanging money in an illegal way.
Trying to leave Nepal by road
Police have also learnt that one Chinese national who was arrested from Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday had gone to Kerung and returned to Kathmandu after the investigation started. Police believe that the Chinese man had gone to Kerung to enter China, however, he couldn’t as security was tight in the border following the ATM heist. Police believe that the Chinese came back to Kathmandu after he could not enter China by road.
Liyang was arrested at TIA on Monday with around $6,000.
Money recovered
Police have said that it has recovered all of money stolen by Chinese nationals on Saturday. They were able to recover the money after arresting three money exchange operators. Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Teku Chief SSP Uttam Raj Subedi said that police was able to recover all the amount that Nepal Rastra Bank said was missing from various bank. The Chinese national reportedly stole around Rs 16 million from various ATMs across Kathmandu.
Chinese embassy shows interest
The Chinese embassy in Kathmandu has subsequently shown interest in the case. According to a police source, officials from the embassy have met with the Chinese nationals who were arrested by the police on Sunday. The embassy officials also met with SSP Subedi and promised him that they would help in the investigation.

TIA deputy manager sacked
Kishor Kumar Khatri has been removed from the post of deputy manager of Tribhuvan International Airport for his role in gold smuggling. Khatri was removed from his post upon recommendation from newly appointed Minister for Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai who on Sunday had said he would remove all officials with a bad history. Khatri has been transferred to Jhapa.
Khatri was arrested from the runway of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) with 466 grams of gold in 2017.
TU asks protesting students to sit for talks
Tribhuvan University has asked protesting medical students to come and hold talks with the university officials. The IoM students have recently padlocked the institute’s office raising concerns over various issues including the entrance exam fee for MBBS. The entrance exam has been scheduled for this Saturday. Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel on Monday directed officials of the Tribhuvan University to take initiatives for talks with students of the Institute of Medicine.

Gautam and Paudel leaving for Singapore today
Nepal Communist Party leaders Bam Dev Gautam and Bishnu Paudel are going to Singapore on Tuesday to meet PM KP Sharma Oli and enquire about his health. PM Oli on Sunday had told party leader Subas Chandra Nembang that he was healthy and would be returning on Friday after his plasmapheresis treatment would be over. Both Gautam and Paudel will be returning home with the prime minister on Friday.
