Police parade five Chinese nations accused of stealing money from an ATM in Kathmandu, on Sunday, September 1, 2019.

NRB forms five-member committee to look into ATM hack case

Nepal Rastra Bank has formed a committee to look into the ATM hack case. Preliminary investigation has shown that Chinese nationals on Saturday withdrew Rs 16 million from various ATMs in the valley. The central bank’s spokesperson Laxmi Prapana Niraula said that the bank has formed a five-member committee under the leadership of Bam Bahadur Mishra former Executive Director of the bank’s Payment Systems Department. The committee has been given three days to submit its report.

Foreign Minster off to the Maldives to attend Indian Ocean Conference

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has left for the Maldives to attend the Fourth Indian Ocean Conference to be held in Male from September 3-4. The foreign minister is scheduled to address the conference on September 3, according to a press release issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday. Minister Gyawali is scheduled to return home on September 5. Ministers from various countries, officials from 16 countries and scholars from over 10 countries, amongst others, are also expected to attend the two-day event.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli

PM Oli’s treatment to go on till Wednesday

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s plasmapheresis treatment will conclude on Wednesday. PM Oli is currently in Singapore undergoing the treatment upon recommendation from doctors here in Nepal.

As of Sunday, PM Oli has undergone the plasmapheresis treatment five times since he reached Singapore on August 22. His press advisor Kundan Aryal said that the PM’s six and seventh plasmapheresis treatment will take place on Monday and Wednesday.

Aryal further said that PM Oli health was normal. PM Oli travelled to Singapore on August 22 after doctors found excess anti-body in his body. Aryal did not mention when the Prime Minister would be back.

Govt to acquire building next to Singha Durbar

The government is planning to acquire the tall building being constructed next to the country central administrative complex, Singha Durbar. Government citing security threat is planning to acquire the building. A committee formed by the Home Ministry has suggested that the government do so as soon as possible.

The committee, in its report, stated that the Imiro Plaza was built against government regulations and has asked the government to take necessary actions against them. The committee has also asked the government to stop the construction of another building next to the President quarters and acquire the property.

Education Ministry at fault for medical college price hike, says parliamentary committee

The education and health committee of the parliament has come to the conclusion that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology was the reason medical colleges in Nepal were able to charge high fees from its student. The committee stated that the colleges were able to charge high fees thanks to a verbal agreement between them and the ministry.  The committee has asked the cabinet to seek clarification from the ministry.

Govt asks citizens not to keep water on terraces to eradicate dengue

The government has asked citizens not to store water in order to eradicate dengue. Sate Minister for Health and Population Dr Surendra Kumar Yadav has asked people to burry holes and not to store waters on their terraces. He said that the government should make a law which punished people who violate these rules.

Remittance inflow up by 16.5 per cent

Nepal in the last fiscal year received remittance worth Rs 8.8 billion a 16.5 per cent increase to what it received the previous year i.e. 17/18. During the fiscal year 17/18 the rate of remittance increment was at 8.3 per cent.

The increment comes as a surprise as the rate of people leaving Nepal for foreign employment has decreased as compared to other fiscal years.
