Kathmandu, January 6
Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has objected to the security checking of passengers leaving for India from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, carried out by Indian personnel.
Unlike other international flights, Indian security personnel carry out a checking of passengers in Kathmandu immediately before they board the plane.
Speaking with senior journalists in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister Gyawali said the presence of the personnel at the airport was not fair. He assured that the two countries would resolve the issue.
“It is a kind of legacy from the past. It is nothing new,” he said, “But, it is not fair. We will solve it at a point of time.”
Stakeholders say the presence of Indian personnel is indicative of India’s mistrust of the competence of Nepali security agencies.
