Kathmandu, July 10

Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista says now onwards no Nepali youth will be cheated in the name of foreign employment as his Ministry is determined to end all malpractices existing in the sector.

He says the government is committed to ensuring that all youth get employment opportunities, in home and abroad, without any deception. Therefore, the Ministry has launched a crackdown on people and institutions involved in cheating foreign employment aspirants on various pretexts and it will not be withdrawn at any cost, according to him.

In a conversation with Onlinekhabar, he says, “Nepali youth should get reliable, safe and quality employment opportunities without deception. It is the government’s responsibility to create such an environment.”

He adds that the government temporarily halted sending workers to Malaysia as it wanted to ensure that all Nepalis working there would enjoy best possible labour rights. Currently, efforts are underway to sign a labour agreement with the country and Nepalis can go to Malaysia for employment after that, the Minister hopes.

“The question that why the recruitment of some thousand youth was delayed is not important. More important than this is creating a situation in which our youth will not get cheated in the long term,” he assures, “The government has made this decision with a long term vision.”

Besides ending problems existing in the foreign employment sector, the government is also working on creating employment opportunities to youth within the country, he says.

“We really need to focus on building capacity of Nepali labour market and establishing foundations to provide employment to Nepali human resources here.”
