Kathmandu, June 14
Officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs say the protests announced by the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal will not have much bearing on the schedule of second phase of local level elections.
Analysing two days of protests by the party, the government has concluded that the polls can be held peacefully in provinces 1, 2, 5 and 7 on June 28.
“We observed people’s participation in the show of strength of the RJPN for two days,” a MoHA official tells Onlinekhabar, “Very few people have participated in the protests.”
Reports collected from various districts have said no district had any demonstration with a participation of more than 270 people in past two days.
The Ministry, therefore, says the RJPN’s protests can be easily controlled.
“The days that require special attention are the day of nomination and the day of voting,” an official says, “The security personnel are capable for that.”
“Few people cannot obstruct as people in general are in favour of elections.”
