Address Madheshi demands or brace for summer stir: Upendra Yadav to government

Morang, March 11

Upendra Yadav, president of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, has accused the KP Oli government of not being serious enough to address Madhesh’s demands though United Democratic Madheshi Front gave it the opportunity to do so by changing the form of its movement.

“We will have no option but to launch a movement from the first week of Chaitra (mid-March, tentatively) if the government continues to remain indifferent towards our demands,” Yadav told the media at Biratnagar on Thursday.

Our demands concern provincial demarcation, the form of federalism and jurisdictions of provinces, Yadav said, asking major parties to address the demands since there’s still time to do so.

He said all concerned should address just agendas of Madhesh and the country and give a way out of the crises. Yadav pointed that they changed the form of the Madhesh movement in keeping with people’s wishes. There’s no question of joining the government unless Madhesh’s agendas are addressed no matter which party leads the government, he said.

The new Nepali Congress leadership, elected through its 13th general convention, has pledged to address the Madhesh crises, he said, describing the pledge as positive. He requested the newly-elected NC president to walk the talk.
