Gold-1

Kathmandu, January 12

Central Investigation Bureau has arrested two officers at Tribhuvan International Airport’s customs, Sri Narayan Yadav and Rajkumar Dhakal ‘Raj’, on the charge of involvement in gold smuggling.

Last week, 34 kg of gold brought from Dubai had passed through TIA customs. A CIB team had arrested three mules with the gold. CIB arrested the two officers from their houses as part of an investigation aimed at identifying the true owner of the illegal consignment.

A CIB source told Onlinekhabar: It appears that Yadav and Dhakal are hand in glove with gold smugglers. They are customs officers. A further investigation is underway.

Recently, Customs Department had fired 29 of its employees and launched a separate investigation into the case.

A team under SP Mira Chaudhary has been searching for those involved in gold smuggling for a week.

On Tuesday, police had arrested two mules in Kavre. Based on their statements, CIB arrested customs officers, the source claimed.
