Twenty-seven Nepali Congress lawmakers, who are from Tarai-Madhesh, have stood in favour of the government-sponsored Constitution Amendment Bill. They have appealed the main opposition CPN-UML to  help with the passage of the Bill.

In a press release, these lawmakers welcomed the government-registered Bill, claiming that this will be a milestone in conducting elections by addressing Madhesh’s demands.

The release further reads: It is objectionable on the part of the CPN-UML leadership to bring the act of bringing forth the Constitution Amendment Bill an act of treason.

The lawmakers said: A responsible party like the UML is seeking to push forth the Amendment Bill by obstructing the Parliament and intensifying its street-based movement. This shows the UML wants to deepen the crisis instead of resolving it. It shows that the UML itself is not in favour of conducting elections.

The lawmakers from the ruling party claimed that the Prachanda government has brought forth a proposal on restructuring of Province 5 as per an agreement that then NC President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli had signed.

The UML has shown double standards by describing an agreement that it had signed as seditious, the lawmakers said. They appealed the UML to support the Charter amendment process.
