23 cows found dead in Surkhet

The cows that were found dead in Birendranagar of Surkhet on Friday, August 30, 2019.

As many as 23 cows, which were being taken to Dailekh district of Karnali province for rearing, have been found dead in Katkuwa, Birendranagar municipality of Surkhet district on Friday.

The cows were loaded on a truck from Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan city of Banke district at 8 pm yesterday. It has been learned that the farmers of Dailekh were bringing around 200 cows to their village. Around 150 cows are alive, wandering around, according to Purna Chandra Joshi, Nepal Police chief for Karnali province.

Banke Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel confirms that the villagers had taken the cows kept under government protection in Nepalgunj.

After the suspicious incident, police have taken five vehicles under control. Investigators say they are also trying to nab persons involved in the incident.
