In 2073 BS, ex-king to lead patriotic forces against tainted political leadership

Kathmandu, April 12

Former king Gyanendra Shah has stressed the need for patriotic forces to unite and take the country ahead by taking cognizance of regional and global politics that has entered a new stage, at a time when the concept of state is weakening due to greedy political leadership that’s misusing state mechanisms for personal gains.

The former king issued this message on the eve of New Year 2073 BS, indicating that he will be active in national politics from the new year.

Gyanendra ShahInterestingly, Shah has made no mention of the new constitution in his message. On the contrary, he has tried to give those seeking declaration of Nepal as a Hindu state a boost.

At this stage, our religions, cultures, languages, history and civilisation are under attack, Shah pointed, adding: Preservation of heritages that our ancestors handed over to us and their hand over to new generations has emerged as a major challenge.

Shah stressed the need to take into account geopolitical sensitivities of South Asia and balance of power.

However, there’s no  mention of the country’s earthquake victims and fire victims in the former royal’s speech. Like in his previous speeches, Shah has brought his dissatisfaction with the present scheme of things to the fore.

Responding to a query, a source close to the former king told Onlinekhabar: He (the former king) has already returned from Bangkok. He has said he will be active from this Baishakh.
