Lamjung, April 15
Two teenage girls have drowned while swimming in a local stream at Thakan, Marsyangdi rural municipality-3 of the Lamjung district in Gandaki province on Wednesday evening.
Police Inspector Om Prakash Pun at the District Police Office says Sirjana Pariyar, 16, and Namuna Pariyar, 13, died in the water.
They had just returned home after collecting fodders for the cattle and had gone to the stream to beat the heat, it has been learned. However, both did not know how to swim.
Along with these two girls, their neighbour, Muskan Pariyar, 14, had also dived in the water, but another friend of hers rescued her with a stick, the police inform.
The bodies have been taken to the District Hospital in Besisahar for postmortem.
