
Kathmandu, October 5
At least 17 people have been killed in landslides triggered by floods in Ilam district. Human casualties have been reported mostly in Ilam Municipality, Suryodaya Municipality, Deumai Municipality, Mangsebung Rural Municipality, and Phakphokthum Rural Municipality.
In Ilam Municipality-6, Ghos, six members of the family of Dambar Bahadur Tamang were killed after their house was buried by a landslide. A rescue team from the Armed Police Force’s Shree Antu Battalion was deployed to the site.
Similarly, in Suryodaya Municipality-1, Manebhanjyang, five people were killed when a landslide swept away the house of Raju Chhetri. Four bodies were recovered from the debris, while one injured person died on the way to hospital. A seven-member rescue team under the command of Armed Police Sub-Inspector Surendra Dotel was mobilized in the area.
In Deumai Municipality-5, Ghuseini, a landslide buried the house of Deepak Limbu, killing two people. Three others remain missing, while one person was rescued safely.
Likewise, in Mangsebung Rural Municipality-5, three people died when a landslide struck the house of Madan Limbu.
Police also confirmed that in Phakphokthum Rural Municipality-3, Ratomate, 32-year-old Suresh Limbu was killed after being buried by a landslide.
