1 killed in Dolakha police firing during voting

Kathmandu, May 14

At least one person died in a police firing incident at Pawati voting centre in Melung Rural Municipality of Dolakha district during voting under the local level elections on Sunday.

Police had opened fire after an unidentified group approached the voting centre in a bid to snatch away ballot boxes.

Assistant Chief District Officer Yagyaraj Bhatta informed the incident occurred at the Chhateshwor Secondary School voting centre in Melung-1 of the district.

The victim is yet to be identified.

Some days ago, a cadre was CPN-UML was killed in a clash with CPN-Maoist Centre in Gauri Shankar Rural Municipality of the district.

Other incidents of inter-party tension have been reported from various polling centres of the district.
