Xi meets President Bhandari at Shital Niwas, attends banquet

Kathmandu, October 12

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is on a two-day visit to Nepal, has met his counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari at the President’s Office in Shital Niwas.

Xi, the first Chinese president to visit Nepal in over two decades, discussed issues of bilateral and regional interest during the meeting with Bhandari, officials said without divulging the details of the meeting.

Xi also took part in a banquet hosted by Bhandari in his honour at Soaltee Hotel. Addressing the banquet, he announced that Beijing plans to conduct the feasibility study of the much-talked-about trans-Himalayan Railway linking Nepal to the Tibet region in China.

President Xi also committed to building the Kathmandu-Chhahare-Rasuwagadhi tunnel road and upgrading the Arniko Highway that connects Nepal to China.

The Chinese President is to hold official talks with Prime Minister Oli on Sunday. The two leaders are expected to witness the signing of various agreements between various Nepali and Chinese entities.
