RJP-Nepal threatens to obstruct House proceedings if Lal Commission report not made public

RJPN lawmakers obstruct the House of Representatives meeting, on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.

Kathmandu, May 21

Rastriya Janata Party (RJP)-Nepal has once again demanded that the Lal Commission report on the Madheshi Movement be made public.

RJP-Nepal leader Mahendra Prasad Yadav on Tuesday demanded that Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara order the government to unveil the report prepared by the committee led by former judge Girish Chandra Lal and to initiate the constitutional amendment process to address the demands of the Madheshis.

This comes as Speaker Mahara has already on two occasions ordered the government to release the report that documents cases of violence in Madhesh after the promulgation of the constitution in 2015. “The government should follow the ruling of the House and the Speaker. Even though the Speaker has time and again told the government to release the report, it still hasn’t,” said Yadav.

Yadav added that his party would obstruct House meeting if its demands were not addressed. Speaker Mahara once again drew the government’s attention towards the matter and the demands of RJP-Nepal.
