President expresses concerns over cold wave deaths, urges for sustainable solutions

Kathmandu, January 8

Expressing her concerns over reports of deaths owing to cold wave in various districts of southern plains, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has urged concerned government agencies to adopt sustainable solutions to the problem that has been repeating every year.

In past few weeks, more than two dozen people have lost life to severe cold, according to media reports.

In this context, the head of the state issued a statement today, expressing condolence over the deaths.

In the statement, she said she was concerned about impacts of the weather on people’s daily life.

Bhandari maintained that the entire nation was sad in learning that especially senior citizens, children and people with disabilities and those living in poverty were hit hardest by the problem.

The President also called non-government and private sectors, civil society and members of the public to join hands with the government to combat the crisis.
