Kathmandu, December 9

The first Interprovincial Council meeting of the country is being held in Kathmandu on Sunday more than three years after the promulgation of federal constitution and one year after the formation of provincial governments.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to open the meeting at 11 am at Singhadarbar today.

Chief ministers of seven provinces are already in Kathmandu to attend the meeting.

The meeting is expected to find a solution to various disputes and differences emerged between the federal and provincial governments.

It has been reported that the chief ministers have already prepared a joint agenda to put forth at the meeting for discussion.

During the meeting, they are likely to complain that they have been deprived of control over human and financial resources and urge the central government to formulate laws and policies so as to ensure smooth functioning of the provincial structures.

Article 234 of the constitution has a provision of Interprovincial  Council. The constitution mandates the Council to settle political disputes arising between the federation and a province and between provinces.

The Council has 10 members including the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, the Finance Minister and seven chief ministers.

The Council may meet whenever required.
