Nepali Congress: Veteran who proposed Deuba’s presidency now calls for dissolution of all committees

Kathmandu, April 22

Veteran Nepali Congress leader Kul Bahadur Gurung, who had proposed Sher Bahadur Deuba for the party President ahead of the 13th national general convention in March 2016, says he withdraws his proposal now.

Instead, Gurung says he wants all party committees dissolved owing to its humiliating defeat in recent elections and an early general convention held to choose the new leadership.

Speaking at the party’s Central Working Committee meeting today, Gurung said giving the new leadership to the party within next six months is the only solution to the problem.

The leader said he was disappointed by the role Deuba played as the party President for last two years and as the prime minister for eight months.

He accused the party President of promoting his own faction than the entire party, going against the party’s values and principles and failing to follow the statute.

Meanwhile, Gurung held all members of the parliamentary board and Central Working Committee responsible for the poll debacle.
