Nepali Congress not to obstruct House meeting Sunday

Kathmandu, February 3

The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has decided not to obstruct meetings of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly from Sunday afternoon.

For more than past one week, the party had been obstructing the legislature meetings raising different demands.

Though the Cabinet last week addressed the demand that the federal government manage two hospitals named after Girija Prasad Koirala and Sushil Koirala, the opposition party had obstructed the meeting on Thursday, demanding that the government take immediate initiatives to save Dr Govinda KC’s life.

After the medical education reform activist broke his fast Friday, the party does not have any reason for obstructing the meeting.

Therefore, the party will let the legislative body proceed with its business after President Sher Bahadur Deuba addresses the Lower House meeting scheduled for 3 pm, according to the party’s chief whip Bal Krishna Khand.

Meanwhile, the opposition’s parliamentary party is holding a meeting today to discuss the party’s strategies to boost its visibility in Parliament.
