Nepal Local Election-II:Vote count over in 200 civic bodies, UML leads

Counting of votes in 200 civic bodies that went to the polls on Wednesday  has been completed, as of Sunday evening.

The UML leads the tally for Mayor/Chairperson while Nepali Congress is second and the Maoists distant third. According to official figures, a UML candidate has been elected head of 91 civic bodies, including 13 municipalities. Similarly, the Nepali Congress has won in 73 local bodies, including 20 municipalities.

Ruling ally Maoist Centre has won in 29 civic bodies, including three municipalities. Forum-Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha have two wins each. Forum-Loktantrik has won in one civic body.

According to local reports, counting of votes has been completed in Terhathum, Dhankuta and Sanjuwasabha in Province 1. Similarly, in Province 5, counting has been concluded in Rolpa and Rukum. In Province 7, counting has been concluded in almost of the hilly districts.

Voters in Doti, Bajhang, Dadeldhura and Baitadi are still waiting for counting to conclude in any one of the civic bodies in the district.

Meanwhile, the UML has maintained a healthy lead in six of the eight major towns’ race for mayor. The Congress is in the lead in two cities while the RPP is in command in one town.
