Biratnagar, May 6
Locals of Biratnagar protesting ‘decentralisation of the capital’ have taken back their protest after assurance from Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai.
In a meeting with all stakeholders and parties on Monday, Rai promised that the capital of Province 1 would remain Biratnagar and other infrastructures would also be built within the city itself.
The protesters led by Biratnagar’s mayor Bhim Parajuli agreed to stop their protest after Rai assured them their demands would be met.
Parajuli has also urged the people of Biratnagar to celebrate the day by illuminating the city this evening.
Earlier, ruling Nepal Communist Party had decided to make Biratnagar the capital of Province 1 while developing infrastructures further away from the capital.
