The  Ministry of General Administration says the Election Commission has approved the transfer of more than 400 staff which was decided after the election code of conduct came into effect.

In the last week of August, the Ministry had transferred staff of various government bodies. After the decision was criticised by various sectors including political parties, the government had put the decision on hold.

But now, the Commission has approved the decision and the staff have been directed to report to their new workplaces as soon as possible, according to Ministry’s Section Officer Lilaraj Khanal.

Earlier, the official trade union of government staff had demanded that the transfer be cancelled.
