Kathmandu, February 20

A ‘digital education centre’ has been set up at the Central Zoo in Jawalakhel of Lalitpur.

The centre was established with the support of the Nepal Investment Bank in honour of the British conservationist Field Marshal Sir John Chapple, who has been contributing to Nepal’s biological diversity and conservation field for the past four decades, The facility came into operation on Tuesday.

Minister for Forests and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet, who is also the chair of the Central Zoo and the National Trust for Nature Conservation, said the centre will contribute significantly to conservation efforts.

The then Rana Prime Minister Juddha Shumser Rana established the zoo in 1932 as a private entity. The Trust was assigned the responsibility of managing the zoo 25 years ago.
