Acid attack on Birgunj schoolgirl after she refused ‘proposal for relationship’

A schoolgirl in Birgunj city of Parsa district has been attacked with acid in the early morning on Friday.

The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Muskan Khatun, a daughter of Rasul Ali, a resident of Chhapkaiya-3. She was a ninth-grader at Tribhuvan Hanuman Secondary School at Reshamkothi.

Two boys threw acid on her near Ganesh Man Chok of the city at around 6 am today, according to witnesses. The attackers were waiting for the girl at a barber’s shop there.

After the girl cried for help, locals gathered at the place and took her to the Narayani Hospital. The hospital referred her to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Her face, hand and some other parts have been burned in the attack.

Meanwhile, police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the incident. DSP Ananta Ram Sharma, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, claims a preliminary investigation suggested that Samsad Miya threw acid on the victim after she refused his proposal for a relationship.

His accomplice has been identified as 16-year-old Majid Alam and he is on the run. Police have launched a manhunt to search him.
