Nepali Congress youth leaders said on Friday the party should not stand in defence of CIAA Chief Commissioner Lok Man Singh Karki just because the main opposition CPN-UML showed arrogance.
It should be noted that the main opposition UML has tabled an impeachment motion against CIAA Chief Karki with support from CPN-Maoist Centre lawmakers. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba said the main opposition registered the motion in a secretive manner even when he had pledged to have the matter discussed within his party first.
But Congress Central Working Committee member and youth leader Pradip Poudel said the party cannot act Lok Man’s shield. The Lok Man episode can have a cascading effect on elections to Constitution implementation. Poudel said the Congress should support the motion even for the sake of retaining unity between political parties.

Poudel said: Otherwise, the party should dare say this: A great man made a small mistake, so we should forgive him.
Another NC CWC member Bishwo Prakash Sharma said they are trying to pit the Congress against Lok Man. Congress is a democratic party, so it cannot stand for Lok Man by going against popular desire.

The youth leaders were speaking at the NC CWC meeting that began on Thursday. The Lok Man issue is dominating the meeting. On Thursday, NC President Deuba had said it will be difficult to stand for Lok Man.
