Kathmandu, April 23

Nepal is receiving a loan of Rs 4 billion from the World Bank to construct four signature bridges, first of its kind in Nepal.

Chief of the Bridge Division at the Department of Roads, Arjun Jung Thapa, says the assistance has been confirmed recently.

He informs that such artistic and attractive bridges will be built at major highway points and urban centres near them. In the first phase, the bridges will be constructed over Narayani on Chitwan-Nawalparasi border, over Tinau in Butwal, over Bagmati on Sarlahi-Rautahat border and in Damauli of Tanahun.

“We have settled all issues and we will sign the agreement in July,” Thapa informs.

The Department hopes that such bridges will attract a lot of domestic and foreign tourists whereas they will be symbolic of Nepal’s artistic prosperity.

The Department has proposed for the construction of 20 such bridges. However, 16 plans have not been put forward for the want of investment.
