Chitwan, September 21

Are you heading home this festive season, through the tried and tested and often disastrous Mugling-Narayangadh road? If you are, there’s a good news coming your way.

Contractors involved in construction work al0ng the section say they will do their bit to improve travel experience by completing minor maintenance work by September 26.

Currently, there are puddles on the road that often hogs headlines for flooding and landslides along different sections. The contractors say they will patch up the road within five days to facilitate a smooth journey.

At a meeting held under Chitwan chief district officer Binod Prakash Singh, Chandra Narayan Yadav, chief of the Narayangadh-Mugling Road Improvement Project, said they will patch the puddles by September 24 and grade the road by September 26.

District Traffic Police Office has identified 32 places as black spots, Yadav, adding that they are implementing suggestions on accident reduction coming from the DTPO.

Forty per cent of the work is complete, he said, adding: By September 26, we will complete all works intended to reduce road traffic accidents along the stretch.

At the programme, he demanded swift action against those who violate lane discipline.

Three companies are working along the 34-km-long Aptari-Mugling section as part of the improvisation project.

Representatives of the three firms said at the programme that incessant rains and movement of overloaded vehicles have ruined the road.

While 33.42 per cent of road construction work should have been completed by August 31, only 25.71 per cent of the work is complete as of now.

At the programme, Shiva Khanal, project engineer, said 33.42 per cent of road construction work should have been completed by August 31. He said only 25.71 per cent of the work is complete as of now.
