A wild elephant has been terrorising Thori Rural Municipality-4 in Parsa.
Buddha Pakhrin, chair of the Kusumbatika Buffer Zone Users’ Committee, said an elephant that strayed in from Parsa National Park has been causing terror in Thori Rural Municipality-4.
Pakhrin said the elephant entered the village last night and tried to break into a local’s house, injuring two people as they fled.
According to him, those injured are 72-year-old Panchmaya Syangbo of Thori Rural Municipality-4 and her granddaughter. He said that after seeing the elephant come straight toward their house at night, they ran to a neighbour’s house for safety and were injured in the process.
“The elephant was following them. As they were entering the neighbour’s house, the elephant knocked down the house’s veranda, injuring the grandmother and granddaughter,” he said.
According to him, the elephant entered the village twice last night alone.
The elephant also damaged one local house. Pakhrin said that after breaking into the house, it damaged stored food grains and a sugarcane crop.
He said the wild elephant causing the disturbance in the village appeared extremely agitated and aggressive.
He said that over the past several days, wild elephants entering villages at night and causing disturbances have left residents living in fear.
