Westerly disturbance causes rainfall, snowfall

  • Snowfall in Himalayan regions, rainfall in valley and some other districts
  • Weather set to improve, chill to go in two-three days
  • Rainfall scant, says weather expert

Kathmandu, February 8

The westerly disturbance has caused changes in weather conditions in the Kathmandu Valley and other parts of the country. Weather expert Sujan Subedi said the weather will improve in central Nepal from today itself, adding that Tarai districts will witness gradual improvement in weather from tomorrow.

High hills and Himalayan regions have witnessed snowfall, while the valley and some districts outside the valley have received rainfall.

As per records at 8.45 am on Monday, Dadeldhura received maximum rainfall (25 mm), whereas the valley received 3 mm rainfall. Subedi described the recent rainfall at this time of the year as scant. He said the chill will go gradually, after two-three days.

Improvement in weather will be a huge relief for earthquake victims in the highlands, who have been living in makeshift tents in pitiable conditions, thanks to the Indian blockade and the unrest in the plains that has been causing a shortage of essentials like petroleum products and lifesaving drugs.
