Popular and veteran leftist singer JB Tuhure has died on Thursday. He was 78.

He had fallen onto the floor in his house in Kalanki of Kathmandu on August 17, following which he was rushed to the Vayodha Hospital in Balkhu. Dr Rohan Jha, who was involved in his treatment, says he had a brain haemorrhage.

In addition, he was also suffering from diabetes, hypertension and other chronic ailments related to the heart and lungs.

Tuhure’s “Aama didi bahini ho…” is considered the most popular song about women’s empowerment in Nepal.

Of late, he was associated with the CPN-Maoist Centre. He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly (2013-17).

The family says he will be cremated at the Pashupati Aryaghat later today.
