US Embassy to organise hip-hop concert in Kathmandu, Birgunj

Kathmandu, April 6

The US Embassy in Kathmandu is two concerts in Nepal as part of its Arts Envoy Program.

‘Our Voice, Our Future’ concert will take place in Kathmandu on Saturday and in Birgunj on Monday. The concert is being organised to raise awareness about various issues concerning the youth and to give people a platform to express themselves, the embassy said.

“Hiphop is a popular art form among Nepali youth, but only a few know about its history of encouraging social and political expression and change in the United States,” says the embassy.

The Arts Envoy Program shares the best from the US arts community with the world to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration and demonstrates shared values and aspirations. Many American artists travel abroad to conduct workshops give performances and mentor young people.

Following previous successful events, the US Embassy has invited hip-hop artist Mahogany Jones and her band to perform for the Nepali audience. She will also lead series of workshops with her band and deliver presentations focusing on hip-hop to inspire civic activism.

She will be joined by popular Nepali such as Laure, the Nepal Hip-hop Foundation, Cartoonz Crew, Swopna Suman, Shiva Pariyar, Sunil Pandit and Sandhya Joshi.
