Kathmandu, August 18
The CPN-UML has decided to appoint Kiran Thapa as the chief minister of Bagmati Province.
A meeting of the UML parliamentary party held on Tuesday decided to nominate Thapa for the post of chief minister.
The meeting also decided to retain Jagannath Thapaliya as the leader of the UML parliamentary party in the provincial assembly.
The decision comes amid growing differences among UML leaders over who should lead the Bagmati provincial government.
Under a new power-sharing arrangement between the CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), the UML has been allocated leadership of the Bagmati provincial government.
Following the agreement, competition and internal disputes had intensified within the UML over the selection of the chief minister.
The parliamentary party meeting has now settled the issue by deciding to nominate Thapa as the next chief minister of Bagmati Province.
