The Chinese government has provided Nepal with 50 tonnes of emergency relief supplies. Two large Y-20 transport aircraft of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at around 7 am on Sunday carrying the relief materials.
According to the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, four Chinese tunnel rescue specialists also arrived in Nepal along with the emergency supplies and necessary rescue equipment.
The relief materials were handed over at Tribhuvan International Airport. Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming, and House of Representatives member Dharma KC were present at the handover ceremony. They also welcomed the Chinese rescue specialists who arrived in Nepal.
What do the Chinese relief supplies include?
The two aircraft departed from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in China and arrived in Kathmandu after a flight of around three hours. They carried a total of 13,200 units of emergency relief supplies weighing 50 tonnes.
The supplies for disaster-affected people include tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping bags, dry food and biscuits, and first-aid kits.
China sent emergency assistance and a team of specialists to support Nepal’s disaster response following devastating floods and landslides in various parts of the country, including areas along the Nepal-China border.
