CPN-Maoist Centre Chair and Prime Minister Prachanda has said he will try to make the Council of Ministers take a decision on presenting the government’s Constitution amendment proposal right away.

PM Prachanda, speaking at the party’s politburo meeting on Tuesday, said there’s an urgent need to amend the Constitution and address the demands of disgruntled sections. Prachanda said he will press the Cabinet to take a decision on the proposal on Tuesday itself. The Maoist party is also preparing to make Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting take a decision on presenting the proposal in the Parliament.

A participant at the politburo meeting quoted Prachanda as saying: The Council of Ministers is holding its meeting on Tuesday. Now, this process (Constitution amendment process) will move ahead.

During Monday’s discussions with President Bidhya Bhandari also, leaders of different political parties agreed that Constitution amendment is a must for its implementation, Prachanda reportedly said.

The government will start preparations for elections after Constitution amendment.
