Trump claims US is also spying on China and Russia

Iowa (USA), November 2

US President Donald Trump has claimed that although China and Russia are spying on the United States, Washington is also keeping them under surveillance and is more capable of doing so.

Addressing an election rally for Republican candidates in Iowa on Sunday, Trump referred to alleged espionage activities by China and Russia against the United States. “They are spying on us, but we are also spying on them, and we do it better,” he said.

His remarks come amid investigations into allegations that China has conducted intelligence operations targeting US military personnel and institutions.

According to the US Department of Justice, two Chinese nationals, Liren ‘Ryan’ Lai and Yuens Chen, were each sentenced to 30 months in prison on October 30 for conspiring to act as agents of the Chinese government.

Acting under the direction of China’s Ministry of State Security, they attempted to recruit intelligence sources within the US military and arrange secret payments to individuals willing to provide sensitive information.

According to court documents, they arranged a payment of around $10,000 through a dead-drop method in Livermore, California, in January 2022. They also collected photographs of US military installations, Navy personnel and military recruitment centres, along with personal details of potential intelligence targets.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested both individuals on June 27, 2025.
