Kathmandu, September 6

The government has appointed professor Sudha Tripathi as the acting vice-chancellor of the country’s oldest and biggest university, Tribhuvan University. She has been told to work as the VC for the next three months.

After incumbent Tirtha Raj Khaniya retired last month, the government had assigned her to work as the VC till Khaniya’s successor is appointed. Now, the government has decided to continue her as the VC for the next three months.

Interestingly, an investigation commission formed to probe irregularities in the country’s medical education sector had recommended the government to take action against Tripathi, who was then the rector at the university. The commission had told the government to immediately sack Tripathi and declare her unfit for any government appointment in the future.

It had also recommended action against Khaniya. The government has not implemented the recommendations yet.
